• HEIDECKER, Diane (ROLL, BURNS) of Dickinson, North Dakota, USA - cdheidecker@@ndsupernet.com - Has been collecting North Dakota German-Russian ROLL genealogy information since the early 1980's, starting with Johann Georg ROLL born 1827.
• HOLLAND, Jan of Washington, USA - hollandj@@uonline.net - Jan has been working on ROLL genealogy since 1979, along with Martha & Charles ROLL and T. Lynn ROLL KENNEDY. Over 10+ years, they worked with other "cousins" and shared information they collected. Much of the information came from family members thru letters, but some research was done too. For personal and health reasons, Martha, Charles and T. Lynn were unable to continue. T. Lynn made a book on these ROLL records and gave it to a few libraries. She also had an article published on the small town of Roll, Indiana. Their main efforts centered on the MANGLES-ROLL line from The Netherlands to NJ and PA. There was research done on the Swiss and English ROLLs as well. Additionally, Rowland ROLL has done a lot of work on the ROLL lines.

[Mitch's note: There are two striking similarities between the two ROLL brother families, Pieter MANGELSE ROLL born about 1670 and Mangle Janse ROLL born about 1665; especially with their daughters, Catherina and Antje... Catherina ROLL SWAIM BEEKMAN vs. Catherina ROLL SWEEN BEEKMAN FORBUR, and Antje ROLL BURNET RYT vs. Annaatje ROLL BURNETT MINTHORNE.] Betty's response: "There seems to be a difference of opinion regarding the descendants of Jan Mangalese... When I first started researching the ROLL line I was active on a mailing list back in 1997 that included Martha ROWELL ROLL, Jan HOLLAND, Nancy LOHBRUNNER, William Henry ROLL, Ed LOCKER, and several others. After RootsWeb was set up, we all joined in the Roll-L list on RootsWeb. But during the early part of my research, I had been going with the information imparted to me by Martha ROLL. She, Lynn ROLL KENNEDY, and Jan HOLLAND were involved in the compilation of a book on the ROLLs. But after Nancy LOHBRUNNER and some others joined the discussion it appeared that there were two branches of the Managlese family... one that migrated through New Jersey, and the other that migrated through Pennsylvania, and then west. As near as I can trace, my line was from the "Pennsylvania" group. I show on my line that Johannes Pieter MANGALES married Janneitje DUCHENE, had only two daughters, Marie, baptised September 1700, New Amsterdam, NY, and Francyntje, christened in 1702. This may be entirely in error and I am still pretty well confused about who descended from whom in those early days. According to what I've been told, Jan MANGALESE was born in Netherlands and was married to Volkie Janse ADRIANSEN. That was in the book researched by the ladies in the 1970's - 1980's period. I have a file that I built from information sent by Hansel HAYCOX on the New Jersey ROLL line."
